A recording won’t play
What to check when a sermon’s recording does not start, stops, or plays without sound, and what to tell us if nothing helps.
On this page
A recording that does not start, stays on Loading… or plays without sound usually has a simple cause. Go through these checks from the top.
Quick checks
- Check your connection. If No internet connection appears, wait for Connection restored, then press play again.
- Look at the player. No recording means that sermon has no recording to play; there is nothing to fix.
- Check which recording is loaded: the player names it. A recording that is playing is not replaced when you open another sermon. Pause it, or stop it with ✕ on the one-line player, then press play on the sermon you meant.
- Raise the volume, and check where the sound is going: a speaker or a Bluetooth headset you forgot about can take it.
- Pause the recording, wait a few seconds and press play again.
When the language is not the one you expected
The player plays the recording of the text you are reading. If that language has none, the English recording plays and a notice says so as it starts: No recording in French. Playing in English. To hear another one, choose the language code in the open player, then Listen in a language.
Not every sermon has a recording in every language, and a few have none at all. A recording marked Read by a computer voice is read by a computer voice, not by a person.
On the website and in the app
Web
- Reload the page and press play again.
- Check that the browser tab is not muted.
- Try another browser, and keep your browser up to date. See Supported devices and browsers.
App
- Raise the volume with the side buttons. On an iPhone, the ring/silent switch does not mute the app’s recordings.
- If the app asks Listen to this sermon, choose Stream to play it now or Download to keep it on the device. After The download did not finish., choose Stream, or try the download again on a steadier connection.
- Close the app completely and open it again. If an update is waiting, update the app.
If only one recording fails
Try the recording of another sermon. If it plays, the problem is with that sermon’s recording, not with your device. Write to us and give the sermon code, the language of the recording and your device. Contact support lists what helps.
The player says No recording. Is something wrong?
No. That sermon has no recording, and its text is there to read. English has a recording for nearly every sermon; French, Spanish and Portuguese have recordings for a part of them.
It plays in English although I read in French.
That sermon has no French recording, so the English one plays and the player says so as it starts. See Play a recording and use the player.
The time moves but I hear nothing.
Check the volume and the device the sound goes to. Then try another browser, or close the app and open it again.
It asks me to sign in when I press play.
The card Keep your place? only offers to keep your place on every device. Choose Just listen and the recording plays at once.
